Amazing Soundstage, Experiencing the Alpine Style Suzuki Jimny

Suzuki’s little offroad capable machine has taken the world by storm. With a cult-like following, the Jimny has won our hearts and minds. Internationally, several companies have made aftermarket parts for the Jimny. Most of them are suspensions mods, others engine power mods.

Some are styling mods. One of those companies is Alpine Style. Their approach is more wholistic, if you may. Exterior styling, lighting, interior, audio upgrades make the bulk of their upgrades.

Alpine has been a by word in the car audio realm for making high quality equipment for you listening pleasure. Now, Alpine added a new division to cater to specific models called Alpine Style. Alpine Style still incorporates Alpine products into their line-up, but their product line is definitely styling.

The Suzuki Jimny is one of the units they have work their ‘Style’ on.

Subtle Exterior Uniqueness

Taking a look at the exterior, you immediately notice that the grille and bumpers are different from a factory stock units. They are Alpine Style versions. The slightly wider over fenders are subtly different. It doesn’t shout look at me but it’s noticeably different. Just my style of dressing up a vehicle, low-key but definitely different.

Rounding out the exterior is a set Balkën Lhotze offroad mesh style wheels in 16×7, wrapped by Toyo Tire’s Open Country R/T tires. The suspension was not forgotten. we all know the short wheelbase leaves something to be desired of the ride quality of the Jimny. So, the spring and dampers were upgraded to Bilstien units to smooth out the ride.

One more exterior detail, how the rain just pools up on the roof of the Jimny and falls on the windshield. Alpine Style came up with a Windshield Water Guide to keep water from your outward visibility during downpours clear. And it helps the windshield wipers do their jobs more effectively.

There is also an electric step that reveals itself when you open the door automatically, making ingress and egress easier.

Interior Tidbits

First thig you notice is the clean and form fitting seat covers from Alpine Style. Once you get inside, you don’t notice anything special or different. Until you encounter dusk time or the evening. What is supposed to be a dimly lit interior with minimal light coming from the instrument cluster and center console.

The Jimny’s interior is transformed into a lively lit interior with Alpine Style’s Ambient Lighting Kit. LED RGB lights brighten up the interior at certain points. The interior doesn’t look dreary any more with the ambient light running. If feels upscale with it. It’s not overly bright, it’s just the right amount of lighting if you ask me.

Aside from the ambient lighting, outward visibility was enhanced with Alpine pieces. The rearview mirror, front and rear cameras are Alpine pieces.

Audio Perfection

Alpine has always been a brand that innovates from my days as a mobile audio installer. They do not disappoint even today. This particular Jimny is a demonstration car for Alpine and Alpine Style which explains all the cool stuff installed on this particular unit. Beginning at the source, the headunit is Alpine’s INE-AX809, a full featured 9/10-inch digital multimedia receiver.

Which definitely delivers clean sound for your system. The audio signals travel to Alpine’s PXE-R100-4 DSP processor for further processing, then it heads to a set of Jimny specific Alpine MMS-165-JI-64 speakers. Something special about these speakers is that they are first roof speaker and door woofer mounted layout set in the industry. The door speakers are mounted in stock locations with sound dampened panels. The rest of the vehicle was also sound damped to keep resonance to minimum.

Logic dictates that the sound that emanates from the nearest speaker is first heard. But not with this system. The sound reproduction is crisp and accurate. The soundstage height is dashboard level, with the soundstage width is surprisingly wide and accurate across the dashboard. I couldn’t believe my ears. Or my ears were playing tricks on me but why would it.

Bringing up the low-end frequencies is an Alpine’s AS-SWD-10D subwoofer. Another item from Alpine Style’s catalog of items. It’s a 10-inch dual voice coil subwoofer designed for shallow (than normal) mounting depths. Its fact, they incorporated drink holders into the sub’s enclosure. And it fits the space next to the rear passenger seat. Talk about compact.

Shoutouts

Alpine and Alpine Style is distributed by Metatech Philippies, among other products in their extensive product line.

Kudos goes out to Mickey’s Autosound for the install of the audio system and whatnots. I’ve known Mickey since my autosound business years since the 1990s. I have seen them create clean sounding systems and impeccable installs through the years.

As a whole, the Alpine Style Suzuki Jimny is something to be experienced. It’s not over the top tuned, but it could be if you want it. Aurally, it ticks all my boxes. The notes come out very well and defined. It holds a few surprises specially in the soundstage.  I could live with the Alpine Style Suzuki Jimny as it is. It would make a perfect daily driver for my purposes.
