Round 5 of the Philippine Superbike Championship proved to be a weekend of grit, resilience, and redemption for the Motul Revo Racing Project. Despite a series of technical setbacks, Marvin Mangulabnan (#189) showcased his trademark determination, clawing his way back to second in the championship standings with a hard-earned podium finish in Race 2.

The weekend began with promise but quickly turned into a test of endurance. During warm-up, Marvin’s race bike suffered a critical failure—a severed speed sensor that disabled key systems including the speedometer, wheelie control, traction control, and quick shifter. The team scrambled to salvage the situation, sourcing replacement parts from the spare bike in a last-minute effort.

Despite their best efforts, Marvin was unable to complete the minimum number of laps required to be classified, forcing him to sit out Race 1 and surrender valuable championship points. The result dropped him to third in the overall standings—a bitter blow for the former champion.

With Race 2 scheduled in the afternoon, the team had a few crucial hours to work through the night and successfully restore the bike’s electronics. But just as one problem was solved, another emerged—this time with the suspension setup. Still, Marvin returned to the grid with unwavering focus and a renewed sense of determination, ready to fight back.

He engaged in a fierce battle with Troy Alberto for several laps, pushing the limits of his Ducati Panigale V4 and setting the fastest lap of the race. Lap after lap, Marvin closed the gap to race leader TJ Alberto, showing improved pace and precision with every corner.

Ultimately, Marvin crossed the line in second place, securing a crucial podium and reclaiming P2 in the championship standings. However, the gap to TJ has now widened, making the final rounds of the season more critical than ever.

Marvin Mangulabnan, #189: “Racing isn’t just about winning—it’s about how you respond when everything goes wrong. This weekend tested me and the team in every way. We didn’t get the result we wanted in Race 1, but we came back swinging in Race 2. I’m proud of the fight we showed. The championship is still alive, and I’m not backing down. I will keep standing up.”
