The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team celebrated a memorable weekend at the Czech Grand Prix, securing podium finishes in both Moto3 and Moto2. Rising star Max Quiles fought through a dramatic 16‑lap Moto3 contest to finish third, while teammate David Alonso delivered his strongest ride of the season in Moto2, leading almost the entire race before being edged out in a photo‑finish.
Moto3: Quiles Extends His Lead
Quiles showed his trademark speed throughout the Brno sessions, holding provisional pole until the final seconds of Q2 before settling for third on the grid. In the race, he leapt into the lead and was part of a six‑rider battle that kept fans on edge. The closing laps were intense, with near contact and bold moves through the final corners. Quiles bravely took a wider line into Turn 13 and 14, positioning himself perfectly for the sprint to the flag and securing third place by just 0.6 seconds.
Marco Morelli, riding through pain after a Friday crash, pushed hard to finish seventh. Quiles now leads the Moto3 championship by 65 points, while the CFMOTO Aspar Team tops the Teams’ standings.
Max Quiles: “It was a crazy last lap. I was trying to push to open gaps so I wouldn’t have this crazy battle but it was a bit windy, and I think our gearing was a bit off for this race. I did what I could. I tried to make the uphill section well to attack into the last corners, but another rider made a crazy move. At that point I thought ‘OK, let’s see what we can do and I’m going outside of the line…’ I was able to take this podium and I’m really happy. I’m looking forward to more.”
Moto2: Alonso’s Breakthrough Podium
In Moto2, Alonso and teammate Daniel Holgado locked out the front row with strong qualifying performances. Alonso stormed into the lead from the start and held off relentless pressure until the final corners, where Ivan Ortola slipped past in a thrilling finish. Alonso missed victory by less than one hundredth of a second but celebrated his first podium of 2026. Holgado fought hard in the second group and finished seventh.
David Alonso: “I’m super‑tired! But happy to be here and on the podium. As a rider you always want more. But this season I have learnt to accept whatever is coming. My target today was to lead a race for as long as possible, and it was hard for me to stay there all the time…but it was good to learn. Congrats to Ivan for a really nice overtake; there was no way to defend. But, I’m happy and thanks to all those who keep pushing and believing in me. We are coming strong again.”
Rising Stars Across Europe
CFMOTO’s young talents also impressed elsewhere. Teenager Sun Shengbo dominated the ESBK Iberian series at Estoril, winning both races to extend his championship lead.
In the MIR Aspar Cup at Valencia, Liu Shanxu suffered a broken collarbone after a crash, while Zhong Wenze recovered from technical issues to secure ninth in race two.
