TGR Philippine Cup Returns: Race Weekend 2 Becomes Biofuel Testbed at CIS

After a brief pause in March, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup roars back to life with Race Weekend 2, happening July 9–11 at the Clark International Speedway. More than just a racing spectacle, this season takes on a bigger mission: serving as a “rolling laboratory” for sustainable fuel innovation.

Since its launch in 2014, the TGR Philippine Cup has brought the thrill of motorsports closer to Filipinos. Race Weekend 1 drew over 6,000 fans to Riverpark, Cavite, where the series debuted the Tamaraw Racing Class — a one‑make race featuring the locally built Tamaraw. Now, the spotlight shifts to Clark, where sustainability takes center stage.

For the first time, the Cup will run its one‑make race cars — the Vios OMR and Tamaraw OMR — on low‑carbon biofuels. Extreme racing conditions will test the performance of a 5% coco‑biodiesel blend (B5) and a 20% bio‑ethanol blend (E20), pushing vehicles to their limits while exploring the future of cleaner mobility.

Toyota Motor Philippines highlights that three‑quarters of Toyota and Lexus gas models are already E20‑compatible, while all Toyota diesel models are B5‑ready. This race weekend underscores the brand’s commitment to fuel flexibility and carbon neutrality.

“Motorsports has always been a testbed for progress, and this season, TGR Philippines takes a step forward by actively exploring alternative fuels in competitive racing conditions,” said Elijah Marcial, TMP First Vice President for Vehicle Sales Operations. “Testing biofuels allows us to evaluate performance, efficiency, and reliability in high‑demand environments — a pivotal moment for wider adoption in the Philippines.”

Echoing this, Elvin Luciano, TMP Vice President for Government and Industry Affairs, added: “Every activity must contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable future. Using biofuels in motorsports aligns with our multi‑pathway approach to carbon neutrality.”

Race Weekend 2 remains open to the public on July 11, with free admission at Clark International Speedway.N
