Pinnacle Motorsport confident as Spanish F4 resumes at Portimao

Coming off a seven week break, it’s game on for Pinnacle Motorsport this weekend as they resume their hunt for strong results in the Spanish F4 Championship. This will be the team’s first visit to the Portimão Circuit in Portugal and look forward to fight at the front with young Irish driver Alex Dunne.

The team enjoyed a dream debut at the season opener at Spa-Francorchamps back in April. Dunne secured pole position and a podium on his very first single-seater outing, which solidified Pinnacle Motorsport’s presence in Spanish F4. Although a damaged gearbox bell housing prevented them from repeating their success during the next event at Navarra, the young 15-year-old’s resilience allowed him to deliver a 7th place finish. With those issues now sorted, the team expects to be fighting back at the front in Portimão.

The team will compete against a grid of 25 drivers on the iconic 4.692 km circuit. Race 1 is scheduled on Friday afternoon (July 16) followed by Races 2 and 3 on Saturday (July 17). Alex Dunne now sits 9th in the driver’s championship after two events with hopes of scoring valuable points over the weekend.

Alex Dunne: “The championship had a two day test at Portimão in preparation for this weekend and I was really happy with how it went. The track was new to me. Portimão is very different to Navarra, which was very flat and stop-start compared to the Portuguese track, which is fast and flowing. It has massive elevation changes which make it almost like a roller-coaster and very interesting to drive.”

John O’Hara, Team Director: “It’s good to be at new circuit as it presents us with a new set of challenges. We’ve only had a short test here at Portimão leading up to the weekend and pleased with what we were able to achieve over two days. Alex learned the track quite quickly and was on pace by the end of the session. Although we’ve never raced here together before, we’re confident that Pinnacle Motorsport will be fighting at the front in Portugal.”

Accompanying Pinnacle Motorsport on their Spanish F4 Championship are partners KCMG and Motorsport Ireland.
