For Mazda Philippines, success isn’t just measured in horsepower or performance specs — it’s defined by impact, both on the road and in the world, we live in. With the launch of the 1,500 Pangolin Project, Mazda once again proves that driving with purpose can lead to real change — not just for people, but for the planet.
At the heart of Mazda’s philosophy is a belief in connection: between human and machine, but also between brand and community, and between people and nature. This belief has fueled their ongoing partnership with the Katala Foundation, a Palawan-based nonprofit committed to protecting the critically endangered Philippine Pangolin (Manis culionensis) — a shy, scale-covered mammal found only in the Philippines, and tragically, one of the most trafficked animals in the world.
Since 2020, Mazda has supported Katala Foundation’s mission through awareness campaigns, habitat restoration, and even the donation of a custom-built Mazda BT-50 Pangolin Edition to assist in conservation patrols. But this year, Mazda is shifting gears — from symbolic support to sustained action.
Introducing the 1,500 Pangolin Project
Starting May 2025, ₱1,500 from every sale of a new Mazda BT-50 will be donated to the Katala Foundation, directly funding wildlife rescue operations, anti-poaching patrols, and public awareness programs. This initiative will run for a full year — a meaningful, measurable commitment that will support boots-on-the-ground conservation work where it matters most.
“This partnership with Mazda gives us hope,” says Dr. Sabine Schoppe, Director of the Katala Foundation. “Not just for the future of the Philippine Pangolin, but for what we can achieve when companies and communities come together for a shared purpose.”
Driving Change with the New Mazda BT-50
With its bold new design and rugged capability, the updated Mazda BT-50 is more than just a pickup — it’s a symbol of strength, versatility, and now, environmental stewardship. Under the hood, it’s powered by a 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine paired with a 6-speed automatic, delivering confident performance while maintaining excellent fuel economy.
Key upgrades include:
-
New 360-degree camera with built-in DVR
-
Revamped infotainment system
-
Hill Launch Assist (standard on all variants)
-
Rough Terrain Mode (on the 4×4 Pangolin Edition)
-
Enhanced interior finishes that balance comfort with durability
Wrapped in Mazda’s signature KODO: Soul of Motion design, the new BT-50 is built for adventurers who crave performance — and now, purpose.
A Commitment Beyond Driving
“The 1,500 Pangolin Project is about taking action that goes beyond the driver’s seat,” shares Steven Tan, President of Mazda Philippines. “It’s about protecting what truly matters — our environment, our endangered species, and our responsibility as a brand to do more.”
This initiative aligns seamlessly with Mazda’s Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030 vision, which champions environmental responsibility through smarter, more meaningful mobility solutions.
By choosing the Mazda BT-50, customers are now choosing more than a capable pickup — they’re becoming part of a movement to protect one of the Philippines’ most vulnerable native species. It’s a step toward a future where progress and preservation drive side by side.
