Mugello, Italy: the day of qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix at the Mugello Circuit ended under grey skies for the MV Agusta Forward Racing Team riders.
The Tuscan day began under a warm sun that warmed the tarmac to a temperature of 30°C, to welcome the FP3 of the three riders of the team Lorenzo Baldassarri, Simone Corsi and Tommaso Marcon.
Simone Corsi was forced to stop the morning session prematurely due to a crash at turn 12, while he was completing a good lap. In the afternoon a few drops of rain affected the qualifying session, where in any case Simone has scored good intermediate times, but without being able to chain them in a single lap. “Today’s session was rewarding from a technical point of view, even if the position doesn’t show it. I am convinced that Simone has a good chance of a good race. In qualifying he rode well, despite this morning’s bad crash. In the afternoon unfortunately he wasn’t able to put all the pieces together to make a good session. In any case he has a good margin in view of tomorrow” is the declaration of Mauro Noccioli, technical chief of Corsi. The itaian rider will start tomorrow’s race from the seventh row.
Baldassarri instead, on the other side of the box, has continued the work started yesterday, where he has tried different alternatives at aerodynamic level. In qualifying the rain and a failed tyre conditioned his performance. “Qualifying wasn’t good for us, the rain ruined our strategy and messed up our plans. The lack of grip experienced by Lorenzo was caused by a faulty tyre, which blistered and did not perform well during the session,” said Riccardo Vareschi at the end of the qualifying session. Lorenzo will start tomorrow’s race from the ninth row of the grid.

Tommaso Marcon, finally, led a day of continuous learning with his F2; the rider set his best time today at 1’54.286 “today’s qualifying was an improvement for us, the result of the work done so far. We are trying to make the bike as easy to handle as possible for Tommaso. The direction taken at the moment seems to be right, so we will continue our work in view of tomorrow’s race”. This is the declaration of Massimo Biagini, Tommaso’s chief technician.
Tomorrow will finally be race day: the lights go out at 12:20 for what will be the sixth round of the Moto2 2021 calendar.
