Baku Breakthrough: Russell’s P2 and Antonelli’s P4 Reignite Constructors’ Fight

George Russell returned to the podium with a hard-fought P2, while Kimi Antonelli delivered a strong P4 finish in a thrilling Azerbaijan Grand Prix that reignited the team’s momentum in the Constructors’ Championship.

Starting on split tyre strategies—George on Hards from P5 and Kimi on Mediums from P4—the team played a smart tactical game.

George dropped to P6 early but battled back, overtaking Yuki Tsunoda twice to reclaim position. Kimi held steady in the top four, pitting on lap 18 and quickly dispatching Liam Lawson to secure a net P4.

George’s long first stint paid off brilliantly. After pitting on lap 39 for Mediums, he rejoined ahead of both Antonelli and Carlos Sainz, locking in second place and cruising to the flag despite battling illness all weekend. Kimi pushed hard in the final laps to challenge Sainz for the podium but couldn’t quite close the gap, as Williams celebrated a well-earned P3.

“I’m really happy to be back on the podium,” said Russell.

“It’s been a tough run, and I wasn’t feeling great this weekend, so P2 feels extra special.”

Antonelli added, “We were closing in on Carlos, but I just couldn’t get close enough to make a move.
