Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading superapp, and GAC, a global pioneer in smart electric mobility, have announced a strategic partnership to deploy an initial 20,000 high‑performance electric vehicles (EVs) across six Southeast Asian countries. More than just expanding fleet numbers, the collaboration focuses on enhancing the in‑vehicle experience for Grab’s driver‑partners through seamless technology integration and improved after‑sales support.
The partnership will introduce three of GAC’s flagship EVs—Aion Y, Aion ES, and Aion V—to Grab fleets in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. Each model is engineered for professional ride‑hailing, with features such as 90‑degree door openings, spacious rear legroom, and Euro NCAP five‑star safety ratings, ensuring comfort and security for both drivers and passengers.

At the heart of the collaboration is the integration of the Grab driver app into GAC’s intelligent cockpit system. This innovation allows driver‑partners to access navigation, demand hotspots, and safety alerts directly on GAC’s large, easy‑to‑read display. By eliminating the need to switch between devices, drivers can accept trips more seamlessly, reduce eye strain, and focus on road safety.
Grab’s Chief Product Officer Philipp Kandal emphasized the impact: “By integrating the Grab driver app directly into the GAC cockpit display, our driver‑partners receive timely data in a more ergonomic way. This ensures a seamless, intuitive experience that reduces cognitive load while advancing our shared commitment to carbon neutrality and a sustainable future.”

Driver‑partners will also benefit from flexible access options, including rental schemes through Grab’s fleet partners and financing support via Grab’s car ownership programs. This ensures that more drivers can transition to EVs without prohibitive upfront costs.
The collaboration builds on Grab’s broader sustainability initiatives. In Singapore and Thailand, riders can already select Eco‑Friendly Rides at no extra charge. In Vietnam, Grab has partnered with EBOOST and Charge+ to expand charging networks, offering preferential rates to driver‑partners. Grab Thailand’s Drive‑to‑Own model provides five‑year lease terms with no down payment, while Grab Philippines launched GrabTaxi Electric, the country’s first fully electric taxi fleet recognized by the LTFRB. In Indonesia, Grab’s fleet already includes over 11,000 EVs, serving high‑volume routes and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable urban transport.
With EV sales in Southeast Asia rising nearly 50% in 2024 (IEA Global EV Outlook 2025), this partnership positions Grab and GAC at the forefront of the region’s green mobility revolution. Together, they aim to create a regional ecosystem testbed—scaling EV adoption, improving infrastructure, and driving consumer demand for sustainable rides.
