EV Safety 101: How to Charge Your Vehicle Confidently, Rain or Shine

In a country where the weather can flip from blistering heat to torrential rain in a matter of hours, electric vehicle (EV) owners often ask: Is it safe to charge my EV in extreme conditions? The answer is yes—with the right tools, knowledge, and precautions.

To help Filipino drivers stay safe and confident, ACMobility, a leading provider of EV charging infrastructure in the Philippines, shares essential tips for charging smartly—whether under the sun or in a storm.

Plan Ahead with Real-Time Station Info

Before heading out, check the availability and status of nearby charging stations using the Evro app. With over 240 Department of Energy (DOE)-registered public stations nationwide, Evro’s Station Finder helps you locate, monitor, and manage your charging sessions—all in one place. It’s your weather-proof travel companion.

Know Your Vehicle, Inside and Out

Always consult your EV’s manual for charging guidelines and compatibility. Avoid charging in flooded areas or immediately after exposure to deep water. Check for signs of water entry in the charging port, undercarriage, or cabin, and watch for battery warning lights. In extreme heat, let your EV cool down before plugging in to prevent battery strain. When in doubt, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized technician.

Use the Right Charger—No Shortcuts

Never use adapters or extension cords. Match your vehicle with the correct charger type:

  • AC chargers (up to 22 kW) are widely available and ideal for overnight or long-session charging.
  • DC chargers (60 kW to 480 kW) offer rapid charging—some can power your EV from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

ACMobility’s chargers support Mennekes (Type 2), GB/T, and CCS2 connectors. Not sure which one fits your EV? Register your vehicle on the Evro app, and it will guide you to compatible stations.

Park Smart, Charge Safer

Position your vehicle properly and inspect the station before plugging in. Avoid stretching cables across walkways, especially in wet conditions. If you notice damage or anything unusual, report it immediately. Safety starts with awareness.

If Something Feels Off—Step Back

Sparks, strange noises, or system errors during charging? Don’t force anything. End the session via the Evro app, move away from the vehicle, and contact support or emergency services. Once safe, ensure the power source is turned off before taking further action.
