BYD Sets Sail for Sustainability: 1,500+ NEVs Land in the Philippines

In a major stride toward sustainable transportation, global electric vehicle (EV) leader BYD has completed the maiden international voyage of its dedicated roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel, delivering more than 1,500 brand-new New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) to the Philippines.

The landmark shipment—received by BYD Cars Philippines, a subsidiary of ACMobility—marks a significant milestone in BYD’s mission to build a vertically integrated green logistics ecosystem while accelerating the Philippines’ transition to clean mobility. The arrival also reinforces the country’s strategic position as a vital hub in BYD’s global distribution network.

A testament to inclusive innovation, the vessel’s maiden crew was composed of 50% Filipino seafarers, showcasing BYD’s commitment to empowering local talent and communities through its global operations.

Half of the crew onboard BYD’s dedicated roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ship are Filipino seafarers highlighting the commitment of BYD to inclusive innovation and the integration of local talent into its global operations.

“This milestone is a testament to the Philippines’ readiness for large-scale EV adoption,” said Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines. “Being the first port of call on this vessel’s global journey highlights our country’s growing role in BYD’s sustainable expansion and our shared vision for a clean, future-ready mobility landscape.”

A Clean Future Delivered at Scale

The arrival of the RoRo vessel underscores BYD’s growing investment in low-emission, high-efficiency logistics. With the Philippines as its first international port of call, the country now plays a pivotal role in BYD’s eco-conscious supply chain across Southeast Asia and beyond.

Measuring nearly 200 meters in length and capable of transporting up to 7,000 NEVs per voyage, the ship is a high-tech marvel equipped with 16 hydraulic-adjustable decks, smart loading systems, and climate-controlled cargo holds designed specifically for EVs, hybrids, and electric buses.

The vessel is powered by a dual-fuel propulsion system that runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG)—a cleaner-burning alternative to conventional marine fuel—cutting emissions by over 30% and advancing BYD’s global commitment to “Cool the Earth by 1°C.”

“With this dedicated fleet, BYD is redefining what sustainable logistics can look like on a global scale,” said Adam Hu, Country Head of BYD Philippines. “Launching this journey in Batangas is symbolic—it shows how innovation and logistics can come together to drive a greener future.”

More Access, More Impact

The new logistics capacity allows for faster, more frequent deliveries of BYD vehicles and parts across the Philippines, improving availability while lowering the environmental footprint of the supply chain. For Filipino drivers, this means greater access to affordable, future-proof mobility options—and for the region, it signals the start of a broader transformation.

Named after BYD’s flagship production base in Zhengzhou, the vessel is the first in a planned fleet of eight specialized carriers, designed to meet surging global demand. In 2024 alone, BYD’s overseas vehicle exports surged by 159.5% year-over-year, reflecting the brand’s expanding international footprint.
