Long before electric vehicles (EVs) were trending, the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) was already steering the country toward a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable transportation future. Now, with momentum at an all-time high, EVAP is unveiling a bold new vision to accelerate the EV revolution—and it’s nothing short of electrifying.
Founded in 2009—the same year Nissan launched the groundbreaking LEAF—EVAP has evolved from a niche advocacy group into a major force shaping Southeast Asia’s electric mobility landscape. And while the LEAF stood for “Leading Environment-friendly Affordable Family car,” EVAP has come to embody a vision that could just as well stand for: “Electric Vehicles Always Prioritized.”
From Grassroots to Game-Changer
Back when EVs were a novelty and charging stations were dreams on paper, EVAP was already lobbying the government, rallying industry players, and envisioning a future where Filipinos would commute in clean, green vehicles. Today, that vision is rapidly becoming reality.
EVAP’s tireless work with lawmakers helped bring about Republic Act No. 11697 (EVIDA)—a landmark policy that has opened the floodgates for investment, infrastructure, and innovation in the local EV sector. From there, EVAP helped drive the creation of the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI) and continues to shape key incentives through the TRAIN Law, CREATE Law, and executive orders supporting green mobility.
A Growing Industry—and Growing Impact
As of 2024, the Philippine EV landscape has seen:
-
922 electric vehicle charging points nationwide
-
147 accredited EVCS providers
-
Over 10,000 jobs created
-
Investments totaling nearly ₱2 billion
EVAP is also working closely with industry leaders to push forward domestic manufacturing of EVs, batteries, and critical materials like nickel—an effort expected to bring in another ₱1 billion in investments.
Racing Toward the Future
But EVAP’s ambitions go beyond the road. In a thrilling new chapter, the organization is preparing to launch the country’s first all-electric race series—a move designed to showcase the adrenaline-pumping potential of electric performance. Workshops in EV motorsport driving are also on the horizon, setting the stage for the Philippines to one day host the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.
“We’re not just building an industry—we’re building a movement,” says Edmund Araga, EVAP President and current head of the Asian Federation of Electric Vehicle Associations (AFEVA). “From city streets to race circuits, we want EVs to inspire a cleaner, faster, and more exciting future for the next generation.”
PEVS 2025: A Milestone Summit
The 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS)—slated for October 23–25, 2025, at the SMX Convention Center—will be EVAP’s biggest stage yet. With over 88 member-companies and 7 pioneering universities in its academe chapter, EVAP plans to announce:
-
Major infrastructure expansions
-
New training and talent development programs
-
The launch of EV Industry Excellence Awards to recognize standout innovation, sustainability, and performance
EVAP: Leading the Charge
From a modest expo at Meralco Gym in 2010 to one of Asia’s most influential green mobility summits, EVAP has never stopped pushing boundaries. The association’s legacy—and future—rests on a simple belief: that electric vehicles are not just the future—they are the present.
And with bold plans on the horizon, EVAP is making sure that Electric Vehicles Always Stay Prioritized.
