Maserati is celebrating a century of its most iconic symbol, the Trident, with a year of milestones that honor both its racing heritage and its enduring identity as a global emblem of Italian excellence.
The journey began in 1926, when Alfieri Maserati drove the Tipo 26 to victory at the Targa Florio, the first car to carry the Trident logo. Inspired by Bologna’s Fountain of Neptune and sketched by Mario Maserati, the emblem embodied strength, ambition, and artistry. That debut marked the start of a racing tradition that would define the brand, leading to triumphs at Indianapolis, multiple Targa Florio wins, a Formula 1 World Championship with Juan Manuel Fangio in 1957, and modern successes with the MC12 and GT2.
A Stamp to Mark the Centenary
In Rome, the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy unveiled a special postage stamp dedicated to the Trident as part of the philatelic series “The Excellence of the Production and Economic System.” Designed by Maserati Centro Stile, the miniature artwork blends past and present: the modern Trident in the foreground, a pattern of the original 1926 emblem in the background, and a tricolor band underscoring Italian pride. For collectors, Poste Italiane has released an exclusive folder with the stamp, a block of four, and a First Day Cover.
Maserati COO Santo Ficili reflected: “This special stamp celebrates not only the centenary of the Trident, but also the beginning of an extraordinary, entirely Italian story, in which innovation born on the track has been transformed into excellence on roads around the world.”
A Global Campaign: 100 Years of the Trident
Beyond the stamp, Maserati has launched a worldwide campaign under the banner “100 YEARS OF THE TRIDENT”, with the word RIDE in bold — a nod to the refined yet sporty driving experience that defines the brand. Every Maserati event in 2026, from concours d’elegance to product launches, will carry this centenary theme.
A new film retraces the brand’s history through its most iconic cars: the Tipo 26, Ghibli, and MC12, alongside contemporary models like the GranTurismo Trofeo, Grecale Trofeo, and MCXtrema. In a powerful sequence, the cars leave tracks that form a giant Trident, symbolizing heritage and future united. The campaign even revives the voice of Maria Teresa De Filippis — the first woman to race in Formula 1 with a Maserati 250F — through AI narration, adding emotional depth to the celebration.
Evolution of a Symbol
From its rectangular badge on the Tipo 26 to the oval red‑and‑blue shield of Bologna, the Trident has evolved through decades of racing and road cars. In 2020, the MC20 ushered in a restyled logo — more contemporary, elegant, and dynamic, yet faithful to its roots. Today, the Trident remains a beacon of Maserati’s DNA: competition, innovation, and Italian pride.
A Century Signed with One Symbol
As Maserati marks 112 years since its founding, the centenary of the Trident is more than a celebration of design. It is a manifesto of identity, racing heritage, and cultural significance — recognized not only by enthusiasts worldwide but also by Italy itself, through the official stamp that enshrines the Trident as a national symbol of excellence.
From the dust of the Targa Florio to the salt flats of modern campaigns, the Trident continues to ride — a century of stories, signed with one symbol.
