The BMW Art Car series, celebrating 50 years of artistic collaboration, blends the worlds of motorsport, engineering, and contemporary art. This iconic collection of 20 “rolling sculptures” has showcased the work of renowned artists, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Julie Mehretu. With a rich history spanning five decades, the series represents a wide array of art movements such as minimalism, pop art, and digital art. Each car, designed in close collaboration with BMW’s engineering teams, reflects a fusion of creativity and high-performance technology.
To mark this milestone, the BMW Art Car World Tour will bring the collection to galleries and museums across five continents. Notable events include exhibitions in Vienna, Art Basel Hong Kong, and the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy. The 20th Art Car, a BMW M Hybrid V8 by Julie Mehretu, will also embark on an Asian tour, while the BMW Museum in Munich hosts a special anniversary exhibition.
Additionally, BMW is releasing a new book, miniature car models, and a fashion collection to celebrate the legacy of the Art Cars. With exhibitions continuing globally through 2026, the BMW Art Car collection remains a symbol of innovation and creative freedom, blending art with high-performance automotive engineering.
