CFMOTO Aspar Team Kicks Off Season with Podium Power in Thailand

The season opener in Buriram was nothing short of dramatic for the CFMOTO Aspar Team. Máximo Quiles fought right to the final metres, locked in a thrilling duel with David Almansa. The Spaniard was the only rider able to match Almansa’s pace, and after 19 laps of relentless effort under the Thai heat, Quiles came heartbreakingly close to victory—missing out by just three thousandths of a second. It wasn’t the win he had hoped for, but it was still a powerful start: his first podium of the year and the tenth of his Moto3 career.

Quiles had lined up on the second row and, despite being new to the Buriram circuit, quickly found his rhythm. From the opening laps he was in podium contention, pushing a pace that steadily thinned the leading group until only two riders remained. In the final corner, Quiles made his move, but the sprint to the line decided the outcome. Second place by the slimmest of margins—but with the confidence that he’s ready to fight for wins all season.

Alongside him, Marco Morelli delivered his best Moto3 performance yet. Facing the Thai track for the first time, the Spanish Argentinian rider climbed steadily through the field, managing the punishing conditions with maturity. His eighth-place finish was not only his strongest result to date but also a promising debut with the CFMOTO Aspar Team.

In Moto2, Dani Holgado carried strong momentum into the Thai Grand Prix, starting from the front row and seizing the lead with a bold multi-rider overtake in the opening corners. The race was twice interrupted by crashes—including one involving teammate David Alonso—and ultimately shortened to just seven laps. The reduced distance worked against Holgado, who had little time to mount a full attack, but he still secured third place and his first podium of the year.

Meanwhile, Alonso was taken to the medical center after his heavy crash. Thankfully, examinations ruled out fractures. Though sore from the incident, the Colombian is expected to return stronger, determined to put the setback behind him.
