Pinnacle Motorsport primed for Spanish F4 debut with Alex Dunne at Spa

Pinnacle Motorsport is looking forward to the opening event of the Spanish F4 Championship as the 2021 season kicks off this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium with rookie driver Alex Dunne. This marks the young Irishman’s single-seater debut coming off a successful career in karting.

The 15-year-old driver showed good progress throughout the pre-season tests and was on pace with the front runners by the final session earlier this month. While this gives him and Pinnacle Motorsport confidence heading into the season opener, there’s still a big challenge ahead as they face stiff competition against a strong grid of 26 drivers from 8 different teams.

Similarly, this will be Pinnacle Motorsport’s first foray into the Spanish F4 Championship after years competing in Asia. The Motorsport Ireland-licensed team brings with them the experience that led them to multiple driver’s and team’s titles, which they hope to replicate racing in Europe.

The season opener to the Spanish F4 Championship takes place from the 28th of April until the 1st of May at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit in Belgium. Run alongside the FIA World Endurance Championship, qualifying is scheduled on Thursday followed by race one and two on Friday, then race three on Sunday.

Alex Dunne: “I’m really looking forward to my first car race weekend and what better place to start than on the Spa Grand Prix track. I know its going to be very tough as many of the drivers have loads of F4 experience, but I showed at the test that I can run at the front and I’m ready to take them on. We have three races this coming weekend and the aim is to put in three strong performances, with no mistakes, and pick up as many points as I can to take on into the remainder of the season.”

John O’Hara, Team Director: “We’ve been working hard with Alex throughout pre-season testing to prepare him for his Spanish F4 debut. Coming from karts, he adapted quickly to driving a singe-seater and based on his performance we’re confident that he can deliver results this weekend. Everyone at Pinnacle Motorsport is also looking forward to the team’s very first event in Europe after years competing in Asia.”
