Qualifying Day concluded for the 3 MV Agusta Forward Racing Riders

Jerez, Spain: teamwork for Baldassarri and Corsi, one step away from Q2. Marcon continues with the knowledge of his F2.

The second day at the Angel Nieto Circuit saw the riders of the Italian-Swiss team concentrate on the set up of the bike ahead of the race. The team focused on turning and working on the front end. The search for improved braking performance continues.

Lorenzo Baldassarri, despite a crash without consequences in turn 6 during FP3, improved his feeling with his F2 recording his best time of the morning in 1’41.603. Baldassarri ended his day with a positive progression in Q1, thanks also to the teamwork undertaken with his teammate Corsi, touching access to Q2 by just over a tenth. “During qualifying we followed the technical direction of working on spring loads, we chose a good team strategy. It was a shame that Simone, who was suffering from the aftermath of the crash, wasn’t able to help us as much as he could, but in any case, we made an important step forward. We feel good for the race, even if today’s qualifying session doesn’t reflect our real potential,” commented his chief engineer Riccardo Vareschi. Baldassarri will start tomorrow’s race from the seventh row of the grid.

Simone Corsi, after returning from injury, took advantage of today to regain feeling with his bike. After this morning’s crash, fortunately without consequences, in the afternoon’s qualifying session he worked together with his teammate to try to improve his lap time. Mauro Noccioli, project leader said: “We are happy to see Simone back on the bike. It always takes a while to get back on the bike and this morning’s crash in turn 11 wasn’t what we needed. We could have improved more in the afternoon but for the moment we are satisfied. We’ll make a few more adjustments in tomorrow’s warm-up to get ready for the race. Starting from the back is never easy but we will try to find the best solution to do well”.

Tommaso Marcon, finally, thanks to the support of the team continues to progress in the knowledge of F2, working mainly on driving style. Accompanying him in his work of the weekend Massimo Biagini comments: “The weekend is going well even if in small steps. Of course, we would have liked to have been quicker but we are trying to find the solution. There has been an improvement and we hope to continue on this path tomorrow”.

The most important day of the Spanish Grand Prix is set for tomorrow, with the Warm Up at 8.50am before the race, which will start at 12.20pm.

Lorenzo Baldassarri #7

“Today we worked a lot on the race pace, what we lacked was the fast lap and it was a shame because with my teammate we were making a good strategy. The wind that came up in the afternoon made it very difficult to work on the run-in and it was a shame because I was doing a good lap in Simone’s slipstream. Unfortunately, in T4, where I could have made a step with a good reference in front, I arrived too far behind and I couldn’t finish the lap as I wanted to. In any case we continue to be confident and I think that in the next races we will go better and better”.

Simone Corsi #24:

“The crash this morning took away some of the feeling I had yesterday. This afternoon we were able to improve on the time we set this morning but not enough to get into Q2, which was our objective. Now we will continue working on the bike and analyzing the data in view of tomorrow’s race”.

Tommaso Marcon #10:

“With today we have taken another step forward in our progression. We are finding the right way to continue to cover kilometers in order to know the bike better and exploit its full potential. We will continue in this direction ahead of tomorrow where we will give our maximum. I would like to thank my Chief Technician Massimo Biagini and the whole team for their support and the work they are doing to give me the best possible support”.
