After their season opening 1-2 finish at the World RX of Catalunya, Timmy Hansen swapped places with younger brother Kevin at the World RX of Sweden to claim the victory.
Fellow Swede Johan Kristoffersson looked in great form in his home country too as he topped the Q4 timesheets after Timmy and Dutchman Kevin Abbring also enjoyed success during Q2 and Q3.
In the first semi-final, Timmy led home Abbring and Finn Juha Rytkönen however Kristoffersson could only make halfway of the second semi-final before a front right puncture ended his weekend as Kevin crossed the line first with Krisztián Szabó and Belgian Enzo Ide also qualifying for the final.
Timmy led the final from start to finish with Kevin tucked in behind, both drivers taking their joker on the final lap to record another 1-2 and Timmy’s 11th career race win as Abbring ended third. Timmy, 29, said: “Our mechanics are the winners keeping our cars together. Sometimes we take it for granted and it is a reminder of the incredible work they are doing. I am so, so happy. 1-2 again.”
Team boss Kenneth Hansen, 60, said: “Fantastic. Timmy worked so hard to get the victory. Kevin finally got it all together to get the speed and follow his brother. Kevin Abbring was so close. Tactics were 100%.”
Timmy now holds the early 2021 championship lead after two rounds on 57 points with Kevin on 51, Hungarian Szabó third on 40 and Abbring fourth on 37 alongside reigning champion Kristoffersson.
The World RX season now moves on to the Bretagne World RX of Lohéac from September 3-5.
