Overlanding describes self-reliant adventure travel to remote destinations where the journey is the primary goal. It means more roads, more travel, more drive therapy and time with your loved ones. As for the name, Banayad means “Light” and this event showcases how this hobby can be appreciated and enjoyed by the whole family. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting the husband and wife team behind the Banayad Festival, namely Emman and Liza Villaverde. “Banayad Adventures is all about my personal trips, specifically Camping and Overlanding. I have a Youtube Channel (Banayad Adventures) where I post most of my videos, Instagram (@banayadadventures) for Photos and Facebook (Banayad Adventures) for general postings and announcements ” says Emman.
Car culture is indeed diverse and is no longer limited to the city limits. These guys have such amazing vehicles that are not only equipped to handle terrain, but to do so in a comfortable environment. Coming from a different perspective, I was easily drawn towards how relaxed and fun this environment is. The attendees were treated to a variety of builds that display the possibilities of each platform and the aftermarket products that are available to support their hobby. The idea of having a “passport” to meet and learn more about their sponsors’ products and services paved the way for new learning and an appreciation for this kind of adventure and lifestyle.
Whether you’re a newbie looking to try something different or a seasoned adventure seeker, this hobby is a great way to create memories with the family. Do note that this endeavour comes with a lot of responsibility and research to make sure that you are self sufficient but don’t worry, these guys will guide and inspire you to take that leap. “For Next Year’s Banayad Festival, we’re hoping to make it bigger with more exhibitors to join to cater to more audiences in the Overlanding Scene.”
