Petron Corporation, the Philippines’ leading oil refining and marketing company, once again takes the spotlight as the official fuel partner of the 2025 DOE–Petron Fuel EcoRun, held on September 24, 2025, along the scenic stretch of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).
Spearheaded by the Department of Energy (DOE), this year’s EcoRun features nearly 70 vehicles—from internal combustion engines (ICE) to hybrids (HEV and PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV)—all tested for fuel economy under real-world expressway conditions.
Fueling Innovation with Petron’s Best
All ICE and hybrid entries are powered by Petron XCS and Petron Turbo Diesel, two of the brand’s flagship fuels known for their advanced formulations and proven road performance:
- Petron XCS (95-octane premium gasoline): Enhanced with Tri-Activ Technology, it boosts power and mileage while protecting engine components. Its superior detergents ensure cleaner combustion and improved fuel economy.
- Petron Turbo Diesel: Engineered for modern diesel engines, it delivers stronger pulling power, restores lost performance, and reduces emissions—while safeguarding sensitive CRDi systems.
“Efficiency begins at the pump,” said Lubin B. Nepomuceno, Petron’s General Manager. “Our fuels are trusted by millions of Filipino motorists because they deliver real performance and real savings.”
A Route That Reflects Real Driving
The EcoRun kicks off at Petron TPLEX Northbound, turns around at the Rosario, La Union rotunda, and concludes at Petron TPLEX Southbound, covering approximately 156 kilometers. While not a race, the event serves as a live demonstration of how various vehicle technologies perform in actual driving scenarios.
To ensure fairness and consistency, all ICE and hybrid vehicles use the same high-quality Petron fuels, allowing for credible comparisons across platforms.
Beyond Fuels: A Future-Ready Commitment
Petron’s role goes beyond combustion. With EV charging stations now available at select TPLEX locations, the company underscores its commitment to a diversified energy future—supporting both traditional and alternative mobility solutions.
This year’s EcoRun builds on a legacy that began in 2016 and 2017, when Petron first partnered with the DOE to promote fuel-efficient driving and gather valuable performance data. These early runs helped shape industry standards and public awareness around energy efficiency.
“We’re proud to continue this advocacy with the DOE,” added Nepomuceno. “By promoting smarter fuel use, we’re helping motorists save and contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable transport sector.”
Petron: Powering Journeys, Building Futures
As the country’s largest oil company, Petron supplies nearly 40% of the Philippines’ fuel needs. With its “Tapat Sa’yo” campaign, Petron remains a trusted partner for every Filipino journey—delivering premium fuels, pioneering innovations, and investing in sustainability to help shape a future-ready energy landscape.
