Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition Shines at Sports Cars for a Cause Event

The Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition made its highly anticipated Asia debut outside Japan at the Sports Cars for a Cause (SCFC) charity event in Bonifacio Global City, Philippines. First unveiled at the Mazda Fan Festa in November at Fuji Speedway, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition honors the roadster’s remarkable 35-year legacy since its debut at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show.

As one of the Philippines’ largest sports car gatherings, SCFC showcased over 200 stunning sports cars along Bonifacio Global City’s 4th Avenue and 27th Street on Sunday, February 23, 2025. The highlight of the event was the display of the Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition as this event is  its first appearance in the country.

“Mazda Philippines is proud to partner with the BGC Car Club and NEO in supporting this incredible event,” said Steven Tan, President of Mazda Philippines. “The deep-rooted sense of charity and community within the sports car enthusiast scene in Manila made it the ideal setting to introduce the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition. Much like the loyal fans behind Sports Cars for a Cause, the MX-5 has garnered a dedicated following, solidifying its status as the world’s best-selling sports car since 1989.”

With only 15 units available in the Philippines, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is priced at PHP 2,490,000. This special edition celebrates over three decades of exhilarating driving performance that only a lightweight roadster like the MX-5 can deliver.

Following its debut at the SCFC event, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition will be on display at the North Court of Power Plant Mall, Rockwell, Makati, from February 25 to March 2, 2025.

The Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition retains its iconic sporty silhouette but introduces exclusive premium details. It is offered in Artisan Red Premium Metallic, a deep, lustrous red with a sophisticated three-layer finish that complements the tan soft top and gleaming silver 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels. A serialized badge on the driver’s rear fender completes the exterior’s signature look.

Inside, the upper door panels and air conditioning vents are color-matched to the Artisan Red Premium Metallic exterior, enhancing the car’s distinctive color-shifting appeal. The interior exudes classic sports car charm with heated tan Nappa leather seats embossed with a special “35th Anniversary” logo, matching tan carpeting, and custom floor mats.

In keeping with the top-tier features found in other MX-5 Soft Top variants, the 35th Anniversary Edition is equipped with an 8.8-inch infotainment screen powered by the latest-generation Mazda Connect system, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual USB Type-C ports, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, and a premium 9-speaker Bose sound system.

Under the hood, the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition boasts a high-revving 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine producing 184 PS at 7,000 rpm and 205 Nm at 4,000 rpm, paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.

Incorporating Mazda’s “Jinba-Ittai” philosophy of “horse and rider as one,” the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition features advanced performance technologies, including DSC-TRACK mode and an Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential, along with sport-tuned Bilstein dampers to enhance the driving experience.

“This special edition is a culmination of 35 years of MX-5 passion,” Tan added. “The 2025 MX-5 is the most capable version of our roadster yet, and we’re incredibly grateful to the more than 1,500 MX-5 owners in the Philippines, who are part of a global community. We’re thrilled to celebrate this milestone with each of you.”
