Grab Launches CommuniKit to Empower Deaf Driver-Partners

Grab Philippines introduces the Grab CommuniKit, a groundbreaking initiative to promote inclusivity and bridge the communication gap between deaf driver-partners and passengers. This innovative in-vehicle visual communication kit aims to ensure a smoother, safer, and more comfortable ride for everyone.

The Grab CommuniKit includes a set of easy-to-read postcards featuring commonly used phrases and requests, such as directions, drop-off points, and special needs like air conditioning adjustments. These postcards are designed to help passengers communicate effectively with deaf drivers, making the experience more seamless for all parties.

Developed in collaboration with leading organizations like DeafED Philippines, the National Association of Sign Language Interpreters, and the PWD Grab driver-partner community, the kit follows best practices for communication with deaf individuals.

Ronald Roda, Grab Philippines Country Head, emphasized, “Our mission is to create inclusive opportunities for everyone in the digital economy. We’re committed to empowering marginalized groups like deaf drivers, ensuring they can benefit from the same tech-driven opportunities and contribute to our fleet.”

One of the driver-partners, Vic Diaz, shared how the Grab CommuniKit has transformed his daily driving experience: “It’s made communication with passengers much easier, especially with those who have the same disability or are foreign travelers. It’s been invaluable in helping me deliver the excellent service Grab is known for.”

The kit is compact, simple to use, and stored in the central console of GrabCar vehicles. In addition to the postcard templates, it also includes a whiteboard and marker for personalized messages.

Grab Philippines encourages both passengers and driver-partners to embrace the initiative by fostering mutual respect, understanding, and patience, ensuring everyone can benefit from this inclusive solution.
