BYD Cars Philippines, along with ACMobility, the official distributor of BYD passenger vehicles, has reached a significant milestone in the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market. In 2024, the Ayala mobility solutions platform sold 4,780 BYD passenger vehicles, securing an impressive 82% market share in the Philippine NEV market.
Out of these sales, 2,078 units were from BYD models such as the Seagull, Dolphin, Atto 3, T3, Seal, Han, and Tang. With a dominant 69% market share in the battery-electric vehicle (BEV) segment, BYD took the lead in the Philippine BEV market in 2024.
The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i was the brand’s top performer, selling 2,669 units in 2024. From its market introduction in July to December, the Sealion also became the best-selling model across both the NEV and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) segments, holding a 19% market share.
The impressive performance of its electric vehicles drove BYD’s remarkable 8,900% growth in 2024 compared to 2023. As a result, BYD ranked as the 11th best-selling automotive brand in the Philippines, with a 1.0% market share, surpassing several major automotive brands, including other Chinese manufacturers.
On the global stage, BYD set another sales record in 2024, with 4,272,145 New Energy Vehicles sold, a 41.26% increase from the previous year. This marked the first time the company exceeded 4 million units in a single year, solidifying its position as the Global New Energy Vehicle Sales Champion.
“We are thrilled to share our outstanding 2024 performance, marking a pivotal year for BYD in the Philippines,” said Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our team, the unwavering support of our dealers and suppliers, and, most importantly, the trust of our customers. Together, we will continue driving the Philippines toward a greener and smarter future with innovative and accessible solutions.”
Top-Selling Models that Powered BYD’s 2024 Success
BYD’s impressive performance was fueled by its cutting-edge lineup of electric vehicles. The top-seller, the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, captured 14.6% of the overall compact SUV market in 2024, and 25.9% of the segment from July to December.
The BYD Atto 3, a subcompact crossover, also made waves, with 1,062 units sold in 2024. This popular BEV achieved a 35% market share, offering Filipinos a reliable and comfortable Blade Battery-powered electric mobility solution.
Introduced in September, the BYD Seagull quickly gained traction, with 411 units sold in 2024. The Seagull took a 38% share of the BEV segment in the final quarter of the year, and 14% of the overall BEV market for 2024, showcasing the growing acceptance of electric vehicles among Filipinos.
These remarkable results underline the Philippines’ growing shift toward electric mobility, signaling a significant step toward a cleaner, greener future.
“As we continue our partnership with ACMobility, we’re committed to offering more Filipinos access to BYD’s innovative and sustainable global models,” said Aiffy Liu, Country Head of BYD Philippines. “We are determined to build on this success in 2025 and beyond by providing innovative, affordable models for our customers.”
Expansion Plans: 52 New Dealerships to Bring BYD to More Filipinos
A crucial element of BYD’s success in the Philippines has been its rapid dealership expansion. Starting 2024 with just two dealerships, BYD ended the year with 25 operational locations across the country. To further extend its reach, BYD has approved 52 new dealer locations to bring its electric vehicles and services to even more areas in 2025.
Through its nationwide BYD Tech Tour, which brings the brand’s groundbreaking electric vehicle technology to local communities, and with new model launches planned for 2025, BYD is poised for an even brighter future in the Philippines.
“The expanding network of BYD dealerships and service centers, along with ACMobility’s growing network of EV charging stations, is key to supporting the Philippines’ transition to electric mobility,” added Palanca. “Together, we’re helping build a dynamic ecosystem that fosters the growth of electric vehicles in the country.”
