Herberth Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 R Finishes P2 at the Dubai 24 Hours

Hong Kong drivers Antares Au, Jonathan Hui, Kevin Tse, and Frank Yu reunited to compete in the 20th edition of the Michelin 24 Hours of Dubai, marking their return to the highly anticipated Emirati endurance race. After an exhaustive 24 hours of racing, the team scored a remarkable P2 finish in the GT3-AM class, and an even more noteworthy P6 overall in a 64-car field. The Hong Kong drivers sought redemption at the Dubai Autodrome after their last attempt 5 years ago in 2020, when their race was cut short due to track flooding. Their race this year saw near-flawless running and a nail-biting finish after racing twice around the clock.
The quartet drove the #80 Herberth Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 R (992), competing in the GT3-AM class. The race weekend started well with drivers showing great pace and building confidence throughout the practice days.  However they encountered their first setback during qualifying, when an early-session red flag and a subsequent decision to change to a different set of tires led to disappointing laptimes for the drivers.  As a result, the #80 Porsche would start the race on Saturday P8 in class and P23 overall.

Their starting position notwithstanding, the drivers shifted focus to delivering a clean and consistent performance over the following 24 hours.  Au started the race and began a trend where #80 would gain positions on the field with each stint cycle.  By the time Hui and Tse drove into the halfway point, #80 reached as high as P3 overall and was in contention for a win.  Gold and Silver rated professional drivers in competing cars would later claw back some of #80’s early advantage, but that was expected given the Bronze-rated drivers in the Hong Kong entry.
The team appeared on solid footing for much of the night, but their hopes for victory were dashed when the official fueling equipment failed during one of #80’s fuel stops early in the morning.  As a result, #80 had to perform an unscheduled pit stop to resolve the issue, losing two laps to the field in the process and dropping out of the top 10 at its lowest point.
#80 was largely on its backfoot at the beginning of the final 6 hours and repeatedly traded places with the #21 Audi and #27 Mercedes-AMG for the last podium spot.  A combination of fuel strategy, traffic management, and consistent pace kept the team in contention throughout this difficult period.  A timely safety car intervention in the final 30 minutes played to #80’s advantage, and ultimately helped the team leapfrog the competition and finish P2 in class and P6 overall, ahead of even the Pro-Am class winner. 2025 marks the fifth joint attempt at the Dubai 24 Hours by this quartet of Hong Kong drivers, their third podium at this race, and their best overall results to-date.  The drivers will be building on this momentum for their respective race programs in 2025 and will announce details later.
