The Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team was out of luck in the second race of the Puebla E-Prix: Stoffel Vandoorne finished the second race of the weekend in P13, Nyck de Vries was forced to retire after contact with another car.
Nyck and Stoffel were in Group 1 once again for the second qualifying session of the weekend, in which drivers had to face the toughest track conditions.

Heavy rain leading up to the race weekend made things a lot more difficult. Water pushed its way up through the asphalt on Saturday and Sunday, making track conditions for those in Group 1 even more unpredictable and all the drivers were keen to post their qualifying laps as late as possible.
As a result, positions one and three in the first qualifying group translated ultimately into grid positions 17 and 19 for Nyck and Stoffel.
Stoffel’s car was damaged in the hard-fought battles for position immediately after the start. As a result, his car’s balance was no longer as it should be and he crossed the finish line in P13 after 32 laps.

Nyck was able to gain a few positions at the start, until he had to retire his damaged car following contact with another driver early on in the race.
After the ninth race of the season, the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team (113 points) occupies the top spot in the team championship, with a three-point lead over DS Techeetah (110 points).

Rounds ten and eleven of the 2020/21 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will take place in New York, July 10 and 11.
