Craft-Bamboo Racing, an official Mercedes-AMG performance team, entered the 68th Macau Grand Prix with Motul as a lubricant partner for their Mercedes-AMG GT3. The car was driven by highly experienced Hong Kong driver Darryl O’Young around the narrow 6.2km Guia Circuit on the streets of Macau. O’Young showed incredible pace all weekend, despite not having raced since one year ago at Macau. Motul’s flagship 300V engine lubricant and Gear Competition transmission oils aided the Mercedes-AMG GT3 to a well-deserved and hard-fought victory.
The weekend started off well, with P1 in Free Practice and a strong performance in qualifying, where O’Young was classified P2. The team was battling for position at the front despite limited track time to set up the Mercedes-AMG machinery. Running in P2 during Race 1, disaster struck on lap 5 when the #95 Mercedes-AMG GT3 hit oil dropped by another car, causing O’Young to lose control under braking, spearing into the wall at 250km/h. What followed was a monumental effort to rebuild the car through the night in order to get it ready for the Race 2 final the following day. It was of grit and determination for Craft-Bamboo Racing and Motul, coming back from the major setback to eventually secure a dramatic win at the 2021 Sands China Macau GT Cup.

For O’Young, this was his fourth Macau Grand Prix win, the second Macau GT Cup win and undoubtedly one of the best performances of his career. It was a proud moment for Motul, having partnered with Craft-Bamboo Racing for this sensational comeback victory. For the first time in the 68-year history of the Macau Grand Prix, a Motul car was featured on the top step of the podium. Joining forces with Motul, the Craft-Bamboo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 used its flagship 300V lubricant in key components such as the AMG engine and Gear Competition for the transmission. Motul 300V has proven the superior performance and reliability it brings to cars competing in the highest echelons of GT racing. Especially around the demanding Guia Circuit, which features long flat-out straights, highly technical corners, drastic elevation changes and bumpy road surfaces, it helped the Motul-filled Mercedes-AMG V8 engine perform at the optimum output for the duration of the weekend.
This magical story is a true testament to Motul’s resilience and desire to achieve maximum performance on and off the race track. Motul Asia Pacific’s CEO, Lionel Dantiacq, has often spoken about Motul going beyond technological advancements. Motul has remained committed to fostering community engagement and being a mobility enabler. O’Young’s emphatic success at the Macau Grand Prix showcased passion and determination, some of the core values that have not only helped Motul grow but also added to the rich 50-year history of the iconic 300V.

To celebrate this momentous achievement, Motul is inviting Darryl O’Young to the Motul Minute #3 media roundtable to be held on the 7th of December. O’Young will be joined by a panel of Motul experts as they discuss the emotional rollercoaster of a weekend and how Motul Lubricants enabled him to victory in Macau. Members of the Motul Media Circle will receive exclusive access to what is sure to be an invigorating conversation and the unique opportunity to ask questions to O’Young himself. Motul is proud to be a part of history and help propel O’Young and the Craft-Bamboo Racing team to one of the greatest finishes in Macau GT Cup history.
