The 2025 Formula One season reached its crescendo under the floodlights of Yas Marina, where Lando Norris clinched his maiden Drivers’ Championship with a measured third-place finish behind Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri. But thousands of miles away, the drama unfolded just as vividly at Whiskey Park in Taguig, where the Motorsports Live Viewing Community (MLVC) gathered 1,300 fans for a night of shared adrenaline, co-presented by Gulf Oil Philippines and Insta360.

The Race That Decided It All
Pole-sitter Verstappen made a clean getaway, holding off Norris and Piastri into Turn 1. The opening lap delivered one of the season’s standout moments as Piastri boldly swept around the outside of Norris at Turn 9, demoting the Briton to third. From there, the McLaren driver faced relentless pressure: Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari loomed large, traffic after the first pit stop slowed progress, and a wheel-to-wheel clash with Yuki Tsunoda nearly derailed the title bid.
Verstappen, chasing a fifth consecutive crown, drove flawlessly to victory. Piastri, equally composed, secured second. Norris, however, absorbed every challenge, crossing the line in third — the exact result needed to seal the championship. The final standings left Norris two points clear of Verstappen, with Piastri 11 points adrift.

Key Race Highlights: How the Title Was Won
The Abu Dhabi finale unfolded like a script written for maximum tension, each lap layering drama onto the championship fight.
Lap 1 — Oscar Piastri wasted no time in making his mark, sweeping around the outside of teammate Lando Norris at Turn 9. The audacious move instantly set the tone for a night of high-risk, high-reward racing.
Lap 4 — Charles Leclerc joined the fray, launching a DRS-assisted attack on Norris. The Ferrari came close, but the Briton held firm, knowing every defensive move mattered in the title equation.
Lap 16 — Strategy began to shape the race. Norris pitted alongside Leclerc and Fernando Alonso, rejoining deep in traffic. The moment threatened to unravel his championship bid, yet he kept his composure and stayed within the points window.
Lap 23 — The duel with Yuki Tsunoda provided one of the evening’s flashpoints. Norris muscled past the Red Bull, only for stewards to later penalize Tsunoda for weaving. The incident underscored just how fine the margins were in a race of destiny.
Lap 33 — Piastri briefly inherited the lead, his long first stint on harder tyres paying dividends. But Verstappen’s perfectly timed pit stop brought him back into contention, reminding everyone why he remains the master of race management.
Lap 40 — The decisive moment came as Verstappen swept past Piastri down the back straight. It was a champion’s move, locking in the race victory and leaving the title fight hinging on Norris’ ability to hold his ground.
Lap 58 — Under the floodlights, Norris crossed the line in third. It was not a win, but it was enough. By the narrowest of margins, he secured his maiden Formula One crown, etching his name into history as the 2025 World Champion.
The Celebration in Taguig
At Whiskey Park, the atmosphere mirrored the intensity of Yas Marina. Fans erupted with every overtake, groaned at penalties, and roared when Norris held firm against Tsunoda. When the Briton finally crossed the line to confirm his championship, the venue shook with cheers, chants, and flag-waving.
The event, titled “Crowned in Chrome: The F1 2025 Finale,” transformed the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix into a communal celebration of speed, strategy, and storytelling. With high-energy hosting by Macoy Averilla and Andie Syyap, and a panel of motorsport insiders and public figures, the night became a landmark moment for Filipino F1 fandom.
“The energy here is absolutely electric,” said James Deakin, transport vlogger and panelist. “You can feel how deeply this resonates with Filipino fans—their cheers, their passion, their pride. It’s not just about watching cars go around a track; it’s about being part of something global, something that connects Manila to Yas Marina and beyond. Nights like this prove that motorsport isn’t just a sport—it’s a community, and the Philippines is very much a part of it.”
Michael Alfred Francisco, General Manager of Gulf Oil Philippines, added: “We’re proud to support events like this that bring motorsport closer to the community. Tonight proves that passion for F1 is thriving in the Philippines,” said Francisco.
“Seeing 1,300 fans come together—families, racers, creators, and enthusiasts—shows how powerful shared experiences can be. Gulf has always believed in fueling not just engines, but connections. This is more than a viewing party; it’s a celebration of Filipino pride, global sport, and the future of motorsports in our region.”
“Our mission next year is to see more Filipino drivers competing on the world stage,” said Atty. Robby Consunji, Automobile Association Philippines (AAP).
“As AAP represents the Philippines within the FIA network, we’re here to provide the licensing, compliance, and support needed for our athletes to race abroad. Every lap they drive internationally is a lap for the Philippines, and we’re committed to helping them get there.”
The MLVC gathering, bolstered by Gulf Philippines’ support, transformed the race into a communal experience. For many, it was more than just watching Formula One — it was witnessing history together, a moment that united motorsport enthusiasts in Manila with the global F1 community.
A Champion’s Words
“Oh God! I’ve not cried in a while,” Norris admitted after climbing atop his McLaren to soak in the crowd’s cheers. “It feels amazing.

Now I know what Max feels like a little bit, and I want to congratulate Max and Oscar, my two biggest competitors all season. It’s been a long year, but we did it, and I’m so proud of everyone.”
A Night of Global and Local Triumph
Beyond the race, attendees were treated to interactive segments, giveaways, and a chance to win an exclusive Carlos Sainz-signed Gulf x Atlassian Williams Racing shirt—a coveted prize that added excitement to an already unforgettable night.

“This is exactly what MLVC is all about,” said host Andie Sy Yap. “We’re here not just to watch a race, but to celebrate the sport, the stories behind it, and the fans who make every moment matter. Nights like this prove that motorsport is more than competition—it’s community, it’s passion, and it’s the shared joy of being part of something bigger than us.”
As Norris celebrated with donuts on the Yas Marina straight, fans in Taguig celebrated just as loudly. The Abu Dhabi finale delivered a champion, a spectacle, and a shared memory for 1,300 attendees who proved that Formula One’s heartbeat resonates just as strongly in the Philippines.
