Petron Fuels the Future at the 2025 DOE EcoRun on TPLEX

Petron Corporation is once again driving the conversation on fuel efficiency and sustainable mobility as the official fuel partner of the 2025 DOE–Petron Fuel EcoRun, happening this September 24, 2025 along the scenic stretch of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).

Spearheaded by the Department of Energy (DOE), this year’s EcoRun will feature nearly 70 vehicles—from internal combustion engines (ICE) to hybrids (HEV, PHEV) and full battery electric vehicles (BEV)—all tested under real-world expressway conditions to showcase fuel economy and energy efficiency.

Powered by Petron’s Benchmark Fuels

All ICE and hybrid entries will run on Petron XCS and Petron Turbo Diesel, two of the country’s most trusted fuels:

  • Petron XCS (95-octane): Enhanced with Tri-Activ Technology, it boosts power and mileage while protecting engines from harmful deposits for cleaner combustion and better fuel economy.
  • Petron Turbo Diesel: Engineered for modern diesel engines, it restores lost performance, protects sensitive CRDi systems, and reduces emissions with advanced additive systems.

“Efficiency begins at the pump,” said Lubin B. Nepomuceno, General Manager of Petron Corporation. “It’s not just about what happens on the road—it starts with the quality of fuel you choose. Petron XCS and Petron Turbo Diesel are engineered to deliver real-world performance, cleaner combustion, and better mileage. That’s why millions of Filipino motorists trust us every day—not just for power, but for savings and reliability. By powering the 2025 DOE EcoRun, we’re proud to show how advanced fuel technology can make a measurable difference in both cost and sustainability.”

A 156-Kilometer Test of Technology

The EcoRun route begins at Petron TPLEX Northbound, turns around at the Rosario, La Union rotunda, and finishes at Petron TPLEX Southbound, covering approximately 156 kilometers. While not a race, the event provides valuable data on how different vehicle technologies perform in actual driving scenarios.

Beyond Fuels: Petron’s Push for Cleaner Transport

Petron is also supporting the shift to electrification by offering EV charging stations at its TPLEX locations—reinforcing its commitment to a diversified, future-ready energy portfolio that embraces both traditional and alternative fuels.

A Legacy of Leadership

Building on successful EcoRuns in 2016 and 2017, Petron continues to champion energy efficiency and sustainable mobility. These events have helped raise public awareness, generate critical performance data, and inspire industry-wide improvements in vehicle technology.

“We’re proud to support the DOE’s advocacy,” said Lubin B. Nepomuceno, General Manager of Petron Corporation. “Fuel efficiency isn’t just a technical benchmark—it’s a national priority. By promoting fuel-efficient driving through initiatives like the EcoRun, we’re empowering Filipino motorists to make smarter choices that lead to real savings at the pump. At the same time, we’re contributing to a cleaner environment by reducing emissions and encouraging responsible energy use. Every kilometer driven efficiently is a step toward a more sustainable transport future, and Petron is committed to being part of that journey.””

Petron Corporation supplies nearly 40% of the Philippines’ fuel needs, with a nationwide network of stations offering premium fuels, lubricants, and services. Guided by its “Tapat Sa’yo” campaign, Petron remains a trusted partner in every Filipino journey—driving innovation, reliability, and sustainability across the country.
